Sheet Music Service was founded in 1917 and is celebrating it’s 90th year as a fixture in Portland, Oregon. Sheet Music Service has had many names over the years including Maud McCawley's Sheet Music Service of Portland from its founding in 1917, Burke-Hoyt Sheet Music Service of Portland after that, and Byron-Hoyt Sheet Music Service of Portland until 1967. Then it became Barker-Lins Sheet Music Service of Portland . In 1986 Michael Sagun and David Wood bought the business and shortened the name to Sheet Music Service.
In 2004, Sheet Music Service relocated from its long time location in the heart of downtown Portland to southeast Portland on the corner of SE 8th and SE Sherman, one block north of SE Division. Along with the move came more retail floor space and more parking. The new building also offers many new opportunities for workshops, lectures and studio space."
When it came time to retire, David and Michael sold to their long-time friends and colleagues in the industry, Pender’s Music Company <http://www.penders.com>. In November 2005 Sheet Music Service joined the Pender’s Music family of stores. Michael Sagun stayed on with the new ownership as Choral/Vocal Manager
Pender’s has deep roots in servicing musicians and directors throughout Texas. In 1967, Harold Gore, a band director from Texas, took a small college shop that specialized in school, art and music supplies and with his love of music, turned it into a full service music store that has become one of the leaders among print music dealers.
In addition to the main store in Denton, TX, (just north of Dallas near the famed North Texas University School of Music) Pender’s has locations in central Houston and North Dallas area (Carrollton), and a location in Oklahoma City. Pender's also has smaller satelite locations in Norman and Edmond Oklahoma.
Experienced, knowledgeable staff. Deep inventories. A commitment to service both in store and online. You can count on Sheet Music Service today and for many years to come.
